Bill Monroe Bluegrass Celebration Hits The Opry

The Grascals and The Del McCoury Band will honor bluegrass legend Bill Monroe at the Grand Ole Opry on Sept. 30. The Bill Monroe Bluegrass Celebration, set to include several bluegrass artists and International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Award nominees, is sponsored by Cracker Barrel Old Country Store. Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Daily & Vincent, The Steeldrivers and James Monroe will also perform at the Opry. The annual fall bluegrass show was renamed for Monroe following his death in 1996. Monroe, known as the "Father of Bluegrass," and is a member of both the Country and Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. A Kentucky native, Monroe and his “Blue Grass Boys” started a new genre of music that reaches out to millions of music fans every year. Artists like Allison Krauss and Del McCoury have carried the music to new heights. The show will take place during the IBMA World of Bluegrass Event and Fan Fest from Sept. 29–Oct. 5. The IBMA Awards will be on Oct. 2 and will feature several prominent artists in bluegrass. Tickets for Fan Fest and all the events can be found through the IBMA.org Web site.
