Country singer Chely Wright, who came out as a lesbian less than one year ago, announced Wednesday that she will wed Lauren Blitzer in August.
Blitzer, a GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) activist, is the co-author of "Same Sex in the City (So Your Prince Charming Is Really a Cinderella)," a lighthearted self-help book for lesbians.
Wright and Blitzer will wed in Connecticut, one of only five states in the U.S. with marriage rights for same-sex couples.
"There had never, ever been a country music artist who had acknowledged his or her homosexuality," she told People just after coming out. "I wasn't going to be the first ... But nothing in my life has been more magical than the moment I decided to come out."
Wright's journey is documented in "Wish Me Away," which will premiere at the Nashville Film Festival later this month, and her memoir, "Like Me," is in book stores now.
The couple says their love of Scrabble holds them together.
