9/11/2007 Stephen L. Betts Miranda Lambert says she first met friend and frequent co-writer Travis Howard, who shares credit on such songs as her Top 20 hit, “Famous in a Small Town” when the two were both finalists on the first season of Nashville Star. That meeting didn’t go well. “I met him the first day, and I thought I hated him more than Satan himself,” Miranda recalls today. “I told him that, too!” Travis was born in rural Georgia, but at the time they met he was living in Los Angeles. As an 18-year-old girl from a small town in Texas who hadn’t seen much of the world at that point, Miranda says, “I’d never even seen anybody that looked like him!” Miranda soon changed her tune, after hearing a few of his. “I heard some of his songs when he sat down around the house playing them, and I was like, ‘Wow!’ You would never expect that two people that could be so different would have so much in common. But we do.” “Famous in a Small Town” is one of the songs Miranda and Travis co-wrote for her current CD, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. The album helped Miranda earn a CMA nomination for Female Vocalist last month.
