Kenny Chesney was recognized as “Tennessean of the Year” by the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame on Feb. 11 for his recent contributions to high school athletics throughout the nation.

President of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, Bill Emendorfer, said the award “honors an individual or organization that has made significant contributions to our society through sports or other methods.”

The country music singer has distributed thousands of copies of the ESPN football documentary, “Boys of Fall,” which Chesney produced, to high schools in all 50 states, according to GAC.com. He also recorded a hit single with the same title.

Chesney said the documentary is meant to inspire student-athletes to take to heart the lessons they learned on the playing field.

Since distributing the DVDs, Chesney has received inspirational feedback from coaches and administrators, according to GAC.com.

One high school football coach said in a letter to Chesney, “your path to success has shown kids all over the country that if they have a dream and a willingness to work hard, anything is possible.”

Chesney joins a list of other prominent Tennesseans, including Vince Gill, Peyton Manning and Lamar Alexander.
