Country darling Miranda Lambert is featured on the latest cover of “Ladies Home Journal” in which she “keeps it real” in a total Miranda manner.

The superstar dishes about the impact happiness has had on her career, which exploded in 2010 with the release of the appropriately titled album “Revolution.”

“Being happy is horrible for songwriting, especially for country music,” she said the magazine. “We just want to write about leaving and sadness. We're all better when we're tormented. I have to put myself in a dark place if I want to write something good.”

Fiancée and fellow country star Blake Shelton also has a huge part to do with Lambert’s current streak of contentment, she says.

“Blake is outdoorsy, outspoken and really funny,” said the top ACM nominee. “I used to have no sense of humor. Everything was a big deal. I've gotten so much better about not taking things too seriously -- and Blake is the reason why.”

Lambert discusses the credit she owes to her parents, who played a big part in getting her career off the ground.

“I started like Loretta Lynn did, with my mom driving me around Texas, looking for radio towers. Some stations would let me in the door and put me on the air. Others wouldn't. But my parents and I always worked together to get gigs,” she said.

Lambert’s “Ladies Home Journal” cover hits newsstands everywhere Feb. 8.
