Jamey Johnson Goes Gold, Earns Grammy Nominations

Jamie_Johnson

Jamey Johnson never expected he’d receive so many accolades when he set out to play Country music 10 years ago.

His most recent release The Guitar Song is getting those accolades, earning two Grammy nominations and Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.

The 25-song double album is nominated for Country Album of the Year and Best Male Country Vocal Performance for its single “Macon.”

“My dream already came true,” Johnson said.  “All I ever wanted was just to get to ride around and sing country music.  It’s cool when things like that happen along the way. I’ll just keep doing what I do. I wake up every day and go play some more country music and have another drink.”

The Guitar Song is also ranked No. 5 on Rolling Stone’s Best Albums of 2010, while “Macon” is ranked No. 23 on the Best Singles of 2010.

“As an album, The Guitar Song is the collection of this journey,” he said. “It’s one that goes all the way around.  It starts off in a deep, dismal, dark place and ends up in a far better place.”

Johnson will join Kid Rock in 2011 on his “Born Free” tour, which kicks off Jan. 15 at Detroit’s Ford Field.
