Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott Wins SESAC Award

Posted by Christina Forte on 11/10/2010

During the last year, Lady Antebellum has gone from well-liked by Country Music fans to loved by everyone. They are crossing over genre boundaries, and in April, the group took home the Academy of Country Music's Award for Single Record and Song of the Year.

Hillary Scott of Lady A has also been recognized for her songwriting talents. Her songs “Need You Now,” which also won Song of the Year from SESAC, “I Run To You” and “Our Kind of Love,” have earned her the coveted title of Songwriter of the Year from SESAC.
“This was the first official thing I ever signed that made me feel like a professional — it was when I signed my contract with SESAC,” Scott said of accepting her trophy. “It was before I had a publishing deal with Victoria [Shaw], it was before we had a deal with our label. It was the first big moment for me.”
Singer Charles Kelley shared in the celebration of Lady A’s success but also knows that the band still has a lot of work to do.
“To be honest with you, I don’t think we feel like we deserve the Entertainer thing yet,” he said, looking forward. “Really truly, we’re not sayin’ that to be politically correct. We don’t. We’re just on our first headlining tour and we after every show critique it and feel like we’re awful, and so we got a long way to go for that.”
