It was a lonely, quiet summer on the beaches of Gulf Shores, Ala. after the BP oil spill began on April 20. But an unlikely pair of music superstars is preparing to bring back the noise.
Brad Paisley and Bon Jovi will each perform a free concert on the beach in hopes of attracting attention and tourists. Bon Jovi will perform Oct. 15, and Paisley will perform Oct. 17.
The weekend of the concerts will also mark the return of Gulf Shores’ powerboat races.
“With the boat races, the open season on snapper, the concerts — Bon Jovi on Friday, Brad Paisley on Sunday — we fully expect to pack this island out," Herb Malone, president and CEO of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Tourism, told WKRG, a local Alabama news channel.
Paisley and Bon Jovi will appear as part of the Concerts for the Coast series (www.concertsforthecoast.com), which began with a performance by Jimmy Buffett and Friends on July 11. Hank Williams Jr. and Gretchen Wilson are also scheduled to perform for the series on Sept. 25.
Although the concerts are free, fans will need to reserve their tickets ahead of time. Tickets will become available through Gulf Shores and Orange Beach lodging partners on Sept. 8.
Some hotels are offering reservation packages with the free tickets, so visit http://gulfshores.com/packages-deals/ for information.
