George Jones will be inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame this Friday, Aug. 21, during a ceremony at the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame Theater.

Jones will be honored alongside Al Dexter and Ray Winkler. Ralph Emery will host the event. There will be special performances by Mel Tillis and the Statesiders, the Justin Trevino Band featuring Tony Booth, Georgette Jones (George's daughter), Frankie Miller, Darryl McCall, Mona McCall, Amber Digby and Curtis Potter.

At an early age, Jones, an east Texas native, found refuge in music from his abusive, alcoholic father. Jones grew up singing for tips on the streets of Beaumont, Texas, where he lived in a government-subsidized housing project.

Notably influenced by Hank Williams, Roy Acuff and Lefty Frizzell, Jones launched is career in the 50s, and now, half of a century later, he is a Country icon.
