After beginning in Nashville, Jimmy Wayne is only 100 miles from his final goal of Phoenix on his 1700-mile Meet Me Halfway walk.

Beginning on Jan. 1, the walk has been an effort by Wayne to help raise awareness for children who age out of the foster care system and run the risk of becoming homeless. Wayne expressed his sentiments on the journey on a personal level.

“This has been one of the most challenging, and at the same time rewarding experiences of my life,” said Wayne. “I know that might sound strange, but it’s true. This journey has made me think back on the childhood I had – there were many nights I didn’t know where I would sleep, and had no idea if I’d have anyy food. Even today, there are kids out there facing the same problems – nowhere to go, no one to care for them. It’s just amazing that in this country, child homelessness and hunger are still issues. If this walk has helped even one child find a permanent home with a caring family, it’s been worth every step. And if me doing it all over again would help another, I’m ready.”

On July 31, a free concert is scheduled at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill in Mesa, Ariz., at 7:30 p.m. PT. The concert will act as the final push for Wayne as he is scheduled to arrive in Phoenix the following day, Aug. 1.

Wayne invites supporters to walk the last half-mile with him to Homebase Youth Services in Phoenix. Fans can join Wayne at Indian Steele Park at beginning at 8 a.m. PT on Aug. 1. That night, Wayne will perform a special invitation-only concert for area foster Children at the Phoenix Hard Rock.

The concert will be available via ustream beginning at 7:30 p.m. PT.
