With the poor economic conditions, the entertainment industry is feeling the strain. Once billable headliners and major tours are seeing a decline in ticket sales and canceling tour dates.
Lilith Fair, Rihanna and The Eagles (along with the Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban) are just some of the tours and artists being forced to cancel shows due to poor ticket sales.
However, even with a staggering 17 percent drop in ticket sales this year, a handful of Country artists still managed to make it on Pollstar’s top tours of 2010 list.
Bon Jovi topped the list, with their concerts bringing in nearly $53 million in revenue. James Taylor and Carole King's tour came in at No.2 with $41 million, while Taylor Swift was inches close to them at $34 million. Former Beatle Paul McCartney has the No. 4 slot with more than $31 million, while the George Strait/Reba McEntire tour rounds out the top five at almost $30 million.
Brad Paisley, with one tour wrapped and another in process, holds the No. 16 spot for his previous American Saturday Night tour and his current H2O tour.
Country music has shown a steady increase in popularity in recent years. Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Brooks & Dunn are just a few of the Country artists named as the top-selling tour acts of the past decade.
Swift will spend the next several months off the road while she works on her new album, but Strait and McEntire (along with opening act Lee Ann Womack) will be on the road into the fall. Find their show dates here.
