Fake Twitter Accounts Mock Country Music Artists

With the popularity of social networking sites at an all time high, Country Music fans should be aware of fake Twitter accounts.

Blake Shelton, Taylor Swift and a slew of other Country Music stars have verified accounts, meaning that Twitter has verified the identity of the celebrity. But recently, a crop of fake Twitter accounts have been created, most mocking the celebrity. One in particular, @blakes_liver, runs with Shelton’s humorous tweets about alcohol. Additionaly. there is an entire line of Twitter accounts dedicated to “drunken” celebrities; @DrunkenMartina is just one of several.

A handful of other fake tweeters include @NotJakeOwen, @notkennychesney, @NotKennyRogers.

While no one can identify who is behind these accounts, it is certain they do not belong to their namesakes. However, as long as they are not impersonating the celebrity and are cautious of what they tweet, they are in the clear legally.

“If @DrunkenMiranda tweets that Miranda Lambert is in jail on a DUI charge, and it is not true, she would have a potential defamation claim,” attorney Lynn Morrow told Billboard, reported GAC. “Further, if the impersonator tries to make it look like he or she is the celebrity, there are possible legal issues there.”
