Don Williams Emerges from Tour Retirement

Velvet-voiced Don Williams will emerge from tour retirement on Oct. 1, in Durant, Okla., to kick off a short tour before being officially inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame on Oct. 24.
 
Williams last performed in Memphis as a part of his 2006 Farewell Tour of the World.
 
Country music’s “Gentle Giant” began his solo career in 1971 and produced 17 No. 1 hits, more than 35 albums and his 1980 release, I Believe in You, was certified platinum. The 1978 recording of “Tulsa Time” was ACM's Single of the Year. Williams was also named CMA Male Vocalist of the Year in 1978.
 
The Texas native will join Jimmy Dean as the newest members of the Hall of Fame at the Country Music Hall of Fame’s Medallion Ceremony in Nashville.
