The Dixie Chicks’ lead vocalist Natalie Maines had a lawsuit brought against her in 2008 by Terry Hobbs, claiming that the Country Music singer had defamed him on the group's website. Hobbs is the stepfather of Steve Branch, one of three 8-year-old boys murdered in 1993 in West Memphis, Ark.

Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, collectively known as the West Memphis Three, were convicted of the murders in 1994. Several celebrities, including Maines, Johnny Depp, Wynona Ryder and Pearl Jam’s Eddie Veder, claim that the men are innocent and should be released from prison.

The charges brought against Maines were based on alligations from Hobbs stating that the singer implied that he was somehow involved in his stepson’s murder. A federal court found Maines innocent, and ordered that Hobbs pay $17,590 to cover court and attorney fees.
