Hootie & The Blowfish Golf Tournament Swings to Sellout Crowd

With more than 3,000 golf balls ordered, 200 golf carts on deck and 192 participating celebrities, The 16th Annual Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After The Masters Celebrity Pro-Am golf tournament was in full swing Monday, April 12. The tournament winners were a six-person team led by PGA TOUR player DJ Trahan and Country Music singer Steve Azar, with a score of 18-under par.

Placing second in the event was Hootie & The Blowfish drummer Jim “Soni” Sonefeld’s team, paired with Pro Dustin Johnson; third was Darius Rucker with Pro Jim Furyk; and fourth place was Colt Ford paired with Tommy Gainey—all three teams boasting 17-under par.  Jack Ingram placed seventh with Pro Darron Stiles.

For the fifth consecutive year a sellout crowd of 6,000 fans packed The Dye Club at Barefoot Resort & Golf to see their favorite celebrities, athletes and musicians compete in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Rucker, lead singer for Hootie & The Blowfish and 2009 CMA New Artist of the Year, said, “This year’s event has been phenomenal, and we’re so thankful to all our sponsors, friends, pros, and supporters for making this our favorite golf event each year.”

The 2010 Monday After The Masters Tournament featured one of the most star-laden fields in tournament history with many of the biggest names in the music, television and movies, sports and the professional golf world. Headlining the 16th annual tournament were PGA TOUR players Jim Furyk, John Daly and former Coastal Carolina University star Dustin Johnson. Also participating in the event were professional wrestling legend Ric Flair; NFL Hall of Famer Dan Marino; former Chicago Bears quarterback Jim McMahon; former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar; NASCAR drivers Kyle Petty and Michael Waltrip; LPGA golfer and Myrtle Beach area native Kristy McPherson.

Representing the music world were Country sensations Colt Ford, Jack Ingram, Steve Azar and Johnny Lee; R&B singer Javier Colon; pop rock performer Edwin McCain; musician Branford Marsalis; Alter Bridge drummer Scott Phillips; Andrew Copeland and Ken Block of Sister Hazel and Dan Tyminski of Union Station.

The 2010 Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After The Masters Celebrity Pro-Am Golf Tournament kicked off Sunday night with a Live Auction and Pairings Party at the House of Blues. Every year, the Live Auction raises money for the Hootie & The Blowfish Foundation, which supports the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation and the educational needs of children in South Carolina.

“The Hootie & The Blowfish Monday After the Masters continues to be one of the most popular events each year in the Myrtle Beach area,” said Bill Golden, president of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday. “This event is the highlight of the spring golf season here on the Grand Strand and this year we had the best weather yet for the tournament. Golf fans mark the Monday After The Masters on their calendar every April and it seems this event just gets bigger and bigger every year.”

For those who could not attend this year’s tournament, the GOLF Channel will broadcast a highlight show in May with interviews and footage from the 2010 event.
