Brad Paisley Not Campaigning For ACM Awards

Over the past few years, award shows have been opening up some award categories from peer-voted to fan-voted. The Academy of Country Music, for example, has opened up the New Artist and Entertainer of the Year awards to online fan-only voting.

In the past, this option has had some objection by Country Music artists, such as ACM Entertainer of the Year winner Kenny Chesney, who once called the fan voting process, "a sweepstakes to see who can push people's buttons the hardest on the Internet."

Brad Paisley, up for an ACM Entertainer of the Year award this year, is opting out of campaigning for the award, which has now become a popular method by Country Music artists' promoters. According to GAC, Paisley said this week, "I'm uncomfortable campaigning, to be honest with you. I don't like that part of it."

Paisley, up for four ACM trophies this year, will be in attendance at the show, and performing. But until then, don't expect him to pass out "Vote for Brad" buttons. "I understand that people love to get involved, and that's cool that they can. I just — vote for who you want. If you're happy with somebody's show last year and you had a great time, vote for them. If that's me, that's great. And if not, I will stand up and clap for whoever wins."
