Lady Antebellum Not Expecting to Dominate ACM Awards

Lady-Antebellum
Just less than two years ago, power trio Lady Antebellum won their first major award for Top New Group of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Since then, the group’s popularity in the industry has continually escalated, with several CMA Awards and even a Grammy. This year Lady Antebellum has been given seven nods by the ACM, more than any other artist.

In an interview with AOL’s The Boot, group member Dave Haywood explained, “We were blown away by our seven nominations. It’s exciting, but also a big shock to us that we got that many. It’s exciting because a lot of them are for ‘Need You Now,’ which means that people are responding to our new music, so that’s a great pat on the back. We’ve made a lot of great friends in the industry, even Reba “twebas” us!”

"Need You Now," Lady A’s hit single from their sophomore album, has climbed to the Billboard 200 chart’s No. 1 position not once, but twice. Last week, the single replaced Sade as the week’s top seller across all genes and remains on the top again this week.

“To wake up to that email telling us that ‘Need You Now’ was No. 1 again was a shock,” said front woman Hillary Scott. “You hope and pray for one week at No. 1, let alone a couple weeks. The day we found out we had gone back to No. 1 was the day we headlined the Ryman in Nashville, so it was a great way to start and end a day!”

Member Charles Kelley said he is "fairly certain" who will win ACM Album of the Year. “I will put money that Miranda Lambert takes home Album of the Year for ‘Revolution.’ That’s the best record that’s come out in the past five years.”

The group is nominated for: ACM Top Vocal Group, Album of the Year for their self-titled debut CD and Video of the Year for "Need You Now.” The song is also nominated for Single Record, which would recognize the group as both artist and producer, and Song of the Year, for which they would be awarded as artist and songwriter.

The ACM Awards will appear on April 18 at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
