Gary Allan’s latest album, Get Off On The Pain, landed at No. 2 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and at No. 5 on the all-genre Billboard 200.

Get Off On The Pain, which sold more than 65,000 copies in its first week of release, has a lighter tone than Allan’s previous two releases.
“I feel like this is definitely more like a party, foot’s-been-lifted-off-my-head album. It’s fun to play live,” Allan told the Associated Press. “It’s definitely a lot more upbeat than our last albums. But it still has a reflection on it.”
Allan’s wife, Angela, committed suicide in their Tennessee home in 2004. Allan said her death influenced the writing in his previous albums. According to Great American Country, Allan’s emotional recovery after the death of his wife was a long, slow climb. In addition, his father, Harley Herzberg, died in 2008.
Great American Country went on to report that Allan was on good terms with his father when he died. When Allen was 15, he had a chance to sign a recording deal, but Herzberg declined the contract, feeling his son should wait until a later date.
“He was right,” Allan said. “He used to have this saying that you need to play for the people that love you, the people that hate you and the people that could care less, and then in that you’ll find a way to play for yourself. Which was just a bunch of nonsense I think until I was about 23.”
Allan will appear in the opening slot of Brooks & Dunn’s Last Rodeo Tour this summer.
