8/7/2007 Stephen L. Betts Carrie Underwood’s latest single, “So Small,” has scored the highest debut of any country female artist in chart history. The single entered the Billboard/R&R country airplay chart at No. 20 this week. It also entered the Country Aircheck chart at No. 25, and earns the distinction of becoming the highest debuting single from any country artist this year. The song is one of several Carrie co-wrote for her upcoming album. “It’s a feeling song,” Carrie says. “It talks about when people invest so much of their time and so much of their energy and efforts into things that really aren’t important. You don’t really realize that until it’s too late. And we’re all guilty of it.” Carrie is thrilled that her fans’ first taste of what’s to come on the new CD includes her own thoughts and words as a songwriter. “We forget about the little things that really actually are important,” she says, noting that she’s no exception. “The dumbest thing can ruin my day. And then, of course, at some point I realize, ‘Good gracious, Carrie! What are you doing?’” “So Small” is also now available as a ringtone to download to your phone. Carrie’s as-yet-untitled new album, which will include “So Small,” arrives Oct. 23.
