It’s an unusual combination: Starbucks and Willie Nelson. But the Country legend’s new album, Country Music, will be sold at all Starbuck locations for four weeks after its release on April 20.
Country Music feature’s Nelson and his eight-piece band, including a banjo, mandolin, fiddle steel guitar and more. The album was co-produced with T-Bone Burnett, who is currently nominated for an Oscar for his Crazy Heart soundtrack.
“I’ve known T-Bone for years, but never worked with him before,” Nelson said in a press release. “He sent me a list of 28 songs he’d thought about for this album and I added ‘Nobody’s Fault But Mine.’ We recorded 23 and picked 15 out of that to release.”
Nelson recorded the album in Nashville with a band hand-picked by Burnett. Nelson described them as “the best people around.” The group includes Ronnie McCoury on mandolin, Jim Lauderdale on backround vocals and Buddy Miller on electric guitar.
Nelson said he’s more than satisfied with the new collection of songs.
“There are so many great songs in every category: pop, country, bluegrass, whatever. There are a lot of great standards to choose from. Fortunately I’ve lived long enough to know them all, I think. I just love singing those songs.”
The PBS series Soundstage will also celebrate Nelson's new album release when it begins airing his episode nationally on PBS, beginning Feb. 25.
