Country Music singer Jimmy Wayne took a break from his “Meet Me Halfway” walk across America to chat with Country Weekly magazine. The singer's goal is to raise awareness for homeless children and teens. As of Monday, Wayne was nearing Memphis, but he told CW he has not been able to keep pace on the walk the way he hoped.

"I've not been able to keep my pace because so many people have been stopping me to talk; take pictures; give me coffee etc," he said. "That's part of grass roots campaigning. I don't mind it at all. If people aren't interested in talking, then the campaign isn't generating the awareness that I hoped it would. So far it's doing better than I expected."

The worst part of the walk? Politicians.

"Of course the politicians have come out to say hi along with their camera and writer," Wayne said. "That's the most annoying part of this walk so far."

Wayne began his solo walk on Jan. 1 in Nashville and will finish up in Phoenix.
