As the Nielson ratings come out with record sales from this past year, Taylor Swift takes the lead with Fearless as the biggest selling album of 2009. The top three selling artists from 2009 are Michael Jackson, Taylor Swift and The Beatles; however, the top three selling albums of the year are Fearless, Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream and Michael Jackson's Number Ones.

Swift also made the top of the list for radio airplay with her song "You Belong With Me" as the most played song of 2009. The No. 2 most-played song was also Swift's "Love Story," making her the most played artist of the year followed by Beyonce.

The Nielson ratings also found an increase in music sales in 2009, rising 2.1 percent over 2008. However, there was a decrease in overall album sales for the year, meaning digital music sales are more popular than purchasing the full album. Last year there was also a trend in purchasing vinyl, as the sales for vinyl went up by 33 percent over 2008. Click here to read the full article.
