Nascar and Country Music Collide at Nashville's Sound & Speed

Country Music and NASCAR are meeting in Music City this weekend for the Sprint Sound & Speed Festival, presented by SunTrust. The event begins today, Jan. 8, and runs through tomorrow, Jan. 9.

The event has attracted about 40,000 fans and raised more than $800,000 since its inception. It’s a fundraiser for The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and Victory Junction, a year-round camping experience founded by Kyle and Pattie Petty for children ages 6-16 with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses.

A night of Country Music featuring Vince Gill, Hank Williams Jr,. Chris Young, Danny Gokey, Holly Williams, Jason Michael Carroll, Kyle Petty and his band and many more will kick off the two-day event. There will also be appearances by NASCAR standouts Michael Waltrip, Jamie McMurray and Greg Biffle during the Friday night event at the Ryman Auditorium. The event will continue Saturday at Nashville's Municipal Auditorium, where fans of Country Music and racing will have the opportunity to get up-close and personal with drivers, team owners, and top-name artists for autographs, story-telling and question-and-answer sessions.  The fan event will start at 9 a.m. with show car and sponsor displays, as well as a charitable auction with memorabilia from the racing and entertainment industries.
 
Fans can visit www.soundandspeed.org/schedule to get more information about the 200 early autograph passes that are available. People who would like to wait for the chance to obtain these passes will have access to the Exhibition Hall at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium beginning on Friday, Jan. 8, at 12 p.m., with distribution taking place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9. These are the only early passes available. 

NASCAR stars participating include: Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Kyle Petty, Kyle Busch, Aric Almirola, Justin Allgaier, Michael Annett, Carl Edwards, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., James Buescher, Brad Kesolowski, Logan Ruffin, Brian Scott, Elliott Sadler, Mike Skinner, Mike Bliss, Ernie Irvan, Jason White Morgan Shepherd, Denny Hamlin, Kasey Kahne, Michael Waltrip, Clint Bowyer, Reed Sorenson, and David Stremme. 

Other Country Music artists include: Love and Theft, Alabama’s Jeff Cook, American Idol’s Danny Gokey, Bucky Covington, Danielle Peck, Ashton Shepherd, Nathan Lee Jackson, duo Kate & Kacey, Ranger Doug, Jason Michael Carroll, Josh Turner, members of Diamond Rio, Fast Ryde and Chris Young.
 
Tickets range from $42 to $54 for the Opry at the Ryman shows on Friday, Jan. 8, and tickets for the festival on Jan. 9 are $20 for adults and $15 for children.
