The Zac Brown Band hopes to become the third Country Music artist to take home the Grammy for Best New Artist on Jan. 31. According to Digital Rodeo, LeAnn Rimes, in 1997, and Carrie Underwood, in 2007, are the only other Country Music artists to take home this trophy.
The Best New Artist category is a cross-genre category, which fiddler Jimmy De Martini says makes it “an honor to be nominated.” Past winners include stars like Norah Jones, Alicia Keys and The Beatles. Other Country artists who have been nominated for this category in the past include
Brad Paisley, Gretchen Wilson, Sugarland,
Taylor Swift and
Lady Antebellum.
The Zac Brown Band hopes that their nomination is an indicator that there is still more success to come for them. Whether they win the Grammy or not, artists who are nominated in this category usually have continued success after the Grammy’s.
