Recorded by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1970, the song "Mr. Bojangles" will be inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame for 2010, according to The Boot. The tune was written by Jerry Jeff Walker.
"We're really proud to be so closely associated with a song that has now become an American standard," said the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's Jeff Hanna. "God bless Jerry Jeff for writing such a beautiful tune."
Established in 1973, the Grammy Hall of Fame recogzines songs from all musical genres at least 25 years old that have "qualitative or historical significance." Other Country recordings in the Hall include Hank Williams' "Jambalaya (on the Bayou)," "Mama Tried" by Merle Haggard and the Carter Family's "Can the Circle Be Unbroken," which inspired the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's 1971 album, Will the Circle Be Unbroken.
