It has been 25 years since Reba McEntire was nominated and won the 1984 CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Award, an award she would win four consecutive years thereafter.
At the 43rd Annual CMA Awards Wednesday night, McEntire is again up for nomination in the same category. She is nominated alongside Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride and Miranda Lambert.
McEntire remembers receiving words of encouragement from Emmylou Harris just before winning her first Female Vocalist Award.
"I was in the dressing room with Emmylou Harris, Brenda Lee and Tammy Wynette," Reba said last week on the Rachel Ray show. "[The CMA producers] said, 'OK girls, we've got to go get in your seats.' I was walking out, and Emmylou walked up to me and said, 'Congratulations...I'm pulling for you!' I said, 'Oh, I'm pulling for you, too!' She said, 'No, this is your year.' To get that from Emmylou Harris was wonderful!"
The CMA's will air on ABC on Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST.
