Montgomery Gentry Reminisces on Joining Opry

Montgomery-Gentry-Opry-Induction
When Montgomery Gentry was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry last week, they were able to choose the current member they wanted to make the presentation.

During an interview with GAC, the Country duo explained the reasons for their choice of Marty Stuart and Little Jimmy Dickens.

"I remember sitting back in a dressing room, and Marty Stuart was back there and him just startin’ to tell some stories about Porter Wagoner," Eddie Montgomery said about his Opry debut in 2000. "It was pretty cool. I mean, to be honest, I don’t know if I was really listening to the stories as much as I’m going like ‘Can you believe I’m sitting back here man talking to Marty Stuart and he’s telling me a Porter Wagoner story?!’"

Another Opry memory that the stars shared was their opportunity to perform with Waylon Jennings at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.

"We had the pleasure of recording with Waylon Jennings when he did the [Never Say Die] album," Troy Gentry remembered. "It was very special because Eddie and I both [grew] up with Waylon Jennings, playing Waylon Jennings music. It was very cool to be on that stage with him, one of our mentors and people we grew up admiring."

After Montgomery Gentry was inducted, the newest Opry members sang their debut single from 10 years ago, “Hillbilly Shoes,” and their newest single -- which they hope will become their newest hit -- ”Long Line of Losers.”
