Sugarland and the B-52s blended musical genres Tuesday night at the CMT Music Awards with a collaborated performance of the B-52’s hit, “Love Shack.” While the Country duo frequently use the song as an encore performance, Jennifer Nettles admitted they weren’t sure how to combine the diverse musical acts.

“We do it live, so we had it worked out as far as the arrangement,” Nettles said. “But we wondered, ‘How would it work to bring everyone in?’”

Regardless of the diversity in musical style, both bands agreed that the combined effort worked in the Country Music setting, CMT.com reported. “It felt really natural,” said Kate Pierson of the B-52s. “I mean, it felt like it was just totally natural.”

Both bands hail from Georgia, and the B-52s credit their southern roots for their eclectic musical style.

“The love shack is a honky-tonk, essentially,” said Keith Strickland, B-52s guitarist. “It’s down a country road. It’s out in the country. It’s a Country song.”
