During Montgomery Gentry's performance at the Tuesday Night Opry, Charlie Daniels surprised the duo by walking onstage and inviting them to become the newest members of the Grand Ole Opry.
"I have been chosen to do something very special," Daniels said to the duo. "I have known you guys for a long time, and I am very proud of all your accomplishments." He continued, "If you agree to it, on June 23, you're gonna be made members of the Grand Ole Opry!"
Duo members Troy Gentry and Eddie Montgomery shared hugs with Daniels before Montgomery said, "I'm speechless." After going on to perform their latest hit, "One In Every Crowd," Montgomery exclaimed, "The Grand Ole Opry ba-by!"
Montgomery Gentry, who released their debut album, Tattoos & Scars, 10 years ago, first performed on the Opry nine years ago in March 2000. Now, their current album, Back When I Knew It All, has given the band two No. 1 singles with the song of the same name and "Roll With Me." This summer, Montgomery Gentry will join Kenny Chesney on his Sun City Carnival tour.
The formal induction for Montgomery Gentry into the Grand Ole Opry family will take place Tuesday, June 23.
