Last week, Jamey Johnson was presented a gold album for his Mercury Nashville release, That Lonesome Song surrounded by fellow artists and supporters.
"I'll tell you what. This is just a proud day for me. It doesn't matter what happened before this. This is where we are right now, so I'm very proud, very humbled. I'm thankful to get to be out here and celebrate this with all these people,” Johnson said in an interview with CMT Insider.
And celebrate he did. Friends of the Country star, including Little Big Town’s Phillip Sweet and Kimberly Schlapman, the Oak Ridge Boys and Alabama’s Teddy Gentry were among Johnson’s fellow musicians who came out to celebrate on Music Row in Nashville. Songwriting legends Bill Anderson and Hank Cochran also made an appearance.
This gathering of music industry professionals reflects just how important this honor is. Receiving a gold album is a milestone in any Country Music artist’s career, and the amount of support Johnson received from his peers made it that much sweeter.
"It's indescribable," he said. "That's all I can tell you. It feels the way I hoped Nashville was going to feel when I got here -- one big family of artists and writers, publishers and managers and label people when everybody is pulling together.”
