John Michael Montgomery's Next Project Pays Tribute to Country Outlaws

John Michael Montgomery

Now that John Michael Montgomery has established his own label, Stringtown Records, he wants to pay tribute to the Country Music artists that first inspired him.

"I'm looking at going in and cutting an album of my favorite Outlaw hits from back in the day," said Montgomery. "That's the music I cut my teeth on--Hank (Williams) Jr., Willie (Nelson), Waylon (Jennings)."

According to Billboard.com, Montgomery is working on a tribute project with Time Life to honor the Outlaw movement in Country Music of the '70s and early '80s.

Most likely, Montgomery will record the album in the late summer or early fall. He'd also like to ask Nelson and others "to come in and sing a little duet on one or two of the songs."

"I want to bring back what I feel was one of the greatest eras of music. Not only was Southern rock huge, but the Country Music scene was really rockin' too. So I'm excited about doing that. It gives me a chance to go back in time and sing some of the songs that I grew up singing."

Montgomery can also be found promoting his 10th studio album, Time Flies, released in 2008. It was his first album on Stringtown and included his first Top 30 hit since 2004, "Forever." He is deciding on what his next released single will be.
