Ronnie Milsap has recorded Country, rock, R&B and rock albums throughout his career, but this time in the studio it was time for a gospel album.

After Milsap's producer, Burt Stein, had visited Graceland, he saw how influencial and powerful gospel music can be, and something clicked for him. He called up Milsap and asked him to record a gospel album; Milsap agreed as he grew up in a Baptist church singing many gospel hymns.

Milsap's past with religion wasn't always so strong, though. When he was only five or six, he was sent many times to a Pentecostal church, where they would try to "heal" his blindness with revivals. Milsap was also a member of the Mormon church for a while, though he eventually left the church because he was not familiar with the music on that church like he was with that of the upbeat hymns of the Baptist church.

After hitting the studio, Milsap came out with a two-disc, 24-song album titled, Then Sings My Soul, which features mostly traditional gospel songs plus a remake of one of his hits, "What a Difference You've Made in My Life," as well as three songs written by John Anderson and Donnie Fritts.

Milsap said, "Early on, religion was a little cruel to me. But that was a long time ago, and I love this music. This was the most enjoyable album I've ever made."
