Kris Kristofferson has told a Minnesota newspaper that although he doesn't remember a conversation in which he berated Toby Keith, Kristofferson's wife says she does recall the event. The news of the conflict at a Willie Nelson birthday concert in 2003 came to light during a recent Rolling Stone article by Ethan Hawke.
Kristofferson told the Star Tribune in Minneapolis that his wife says she remembers the argument with Keith that Hawke reported on. Kristofferson, however, stands by the fact that he has no recollection of the event saying, "That's something that happened six years ago, and I can't even remember what I had for breakfast."
In Rolling Stone, Hawke recounts the event saying that Kristofferson trashed Keith and his single at the time, "Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue (The Angry American)." Since the article was published, Hawke has not talked anymore about the publication. Toby Keith continues to say that the story Hawke told is "100 percent fiction."
