Laura Bryna wants to show her appreciation for the men and women of the U.S. military. After she co-wrote “Hometown Heroes,” it was adopted by the Air National Guard as their campaign song. Her new mission, however, is to honor the unsung hometown heroes through a national search. Bryna is teaming up with Southern Beauty magazine to find America’s “Hometown Heroes.”
“Recording ‘Hometown Heroes’ and then getting to see how these brave men and women sacrifice really made me appreciate what they do. And this national search we’re now doing with Southern Beauty is a way for us to showcase five men or women who selflessly give back to their communities or country,” said Bryna. “There are everyday heroes in America doing wonderful things that often go unnoticed. They could be anyone, from an airline pilot or a firefighter to a teacher, physician, scientist or volunteer for some worthy cause. We often place an emphasis on things that are not that important. We thought this search might help to showcase people who really, truly matter and make a difference.”
To enter the search, log into www.southernbeautymag.com or www.laurabryna.com and enter the hero of your choice. The entrant must be known by the nominator. The nominator will also fill out a brief questionnaire or create a short video for the site where fans can offer comments. The search began April 2 and will run through June 15, with the winners being announced on July 4.
The winners will receive a round trip flight and hotel accommodations in Los Angeles free of charge. They will also attend a special event and party for “Hometown Heroes” in August. Bryna and her band will also perform during the event and other celebrities will be invited to the event, as well.
Southern Beauty magazine is in its second year of production and Bryna debuted in 2008 with her single, “Trying to be Me.”
