Country Music Makes It to the White House

Country stars Garth Brooks and Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland will both be performing at President-elect Barack Obama’s inaugural celebration. The event will be held at The Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. It will mark the 56th Presidential inauguration, and has been titled, “We Are One.”Garth and Nettles are just two of the many performers set to kick off this celebration. Other confirmed artists include Sheryl Crow, Bruce Springsteen, Bono, John Legend, Beyonce, Josh Groban, Mary J. Blige, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, Shakira and more. Non-musical guests will include Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Martin Luther King III and Queen Latifah.The performers will be singing songs relevant to the event, songs that are patriotic or represent unity and togetherness. Nettles is said to be singing “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.”This celebration will take place on Sunday, Jan. 18, two days before the actual inauguration, and is free for the public to attend. Those who can’t be there can catch it commercial-free, beginning at 2 p.m. on HBO.
