Stephen Cochran will return to Iraq on Dec. 26 to fulfill his long-held dream of performing for America's heroes on the front lines. Cochran will perform for over 800 vets at the National Capital Region Army Medical Department Holiday Ball in Greenbelt, Maryland. The singer was asked to participate in the ball, a joint-services event including Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines medical personnel, after his acclaimed Veteran's Day-weekend performance in New York for the USO/Microsoft Salute to the Troops.While in the Washington, D.C., area, Cochran will visit wounded warriors at Walter Reed, where he was also a patient after being wounded in battle. "The last time I was in Iraq, I was in a uniform with a weapon, and I've been working toward this trip for four years now," Cochran said. "It's a lonely time over there for the troops, and I'm glad we're going to get to play for the men and women who really need us."A decorated veteran of two tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, Cochran, who overcame life-threatening injuries to valiantly fight his way back onstage, has made it a top priority over the past year to honor and assist his fellow veterans at every opportunity. Working with the Independence Fund, an organization that provides tools and therapies to returning veterans, the singer/songwriter has helped to purchase 19 iBot wheelchairs for $30,000 each. The iBot gives wheelchair-bound veterans the chance to live more mobile, productive lives. And that's just one example of Cochran's tireless, ongoing work for his fellow veterans."The troops have never had someone who's slept and bled on that ground," Cochran said. "I held one of my men until he died in that country.
