Posted by Lisa Ann Schleipfer on 12/04/2008

The Grammy nominations are in, with a few surprises. Alison Krauss and Robert Plant have made headway with their collaboration Raising Sand, picking up a nomination for the big Grammy title: Album of the Year. The duo are also up for Record of the Year with "Please Read the Letter" and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for "Rich Woman." Krauss and Plant actually took home a Grammy last year for the song "Raising Sand," but the album didn't make it in time for the Grammy deadline.Krauss is no stranger to the music awards; she currently holds 21 Grammys, landing her in the seventh biggest winner spot. If Krauss takes all categories in which she is nominated, she will tie for third-most Grammy adorned.Other notable nominations in non-Country music categories were trio Lady Antebellum, a Best New Artist nominee, and Country Music artists Kathy Mattea is a contender for Best Traditional Folk Album with her work, Coal. The highest number of award nominations go to rapper Lil Wayne with eight, while British rockers Coldplay have the nod for seven. For a complete list of nominees, click here.
