Conway Twitty Celebrated in New Musical

Conway TwittyConway Twitty may be gone, but he has come back to life on the stage.Conway Twitty: The Man, The Music, The Legend, a musical based on the late star's life, opened in Nashville last weekend. It features more than 30 of Conway's songs and a narrative from actresses portraying his daughters, Joni and Kathy.The show follows his early success as a rock star and his legendary career as a Country singer/songwriter, with stories from his entire life. It features Glen Templeton as Twitty, Tiffany Leigh Baldwin and Amber Hayes as his daughters and Emily Portman as singing partner and friend Loretta Lynn.Several of Twitty's friends and contemporaries were in attendance for the premiere, and many of them said they loved the show. His daughters and son, Jimmy, who are the driving force behind the musical, were also in attendance. They hope the show does some good for their father's legacy."We hope to take Daddy out of the courtroom and back into the spotlight where he belongs," Joni said, referring to the court struggle over Twitty's estate.The musical will be in Branson, Mo., on Oct. 22, with four shows planned, before heading on a tour across the U.S. and Canada.
