Crystal Shawanda credits music for saving her life and now, her own music is making Country Music chart history. Shawanda's debut album, Dawn Of A New Day, entered Billboard's Country Albums Chart at No. 16, making her the highest charting full-blooded Native American in Country Music in the SoundScan era. Not only is Shawanda a full-blooded Native American, but she's also from Canada, where she grew up on the Wikwemikong reservation on Canada’s Manitoulin Island. In her native Ojibwe language, Shawanda means "dawn of a new day," hence the name of her album. Shawanda's current single off Dawn Of A New Day, "You Can Let Go," is in the Top 20 and is continuing its climb. Shawanda is set to perform at the Canadian Country Music Awards on Sept. 8 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
