Three Added to Texas Country Music Hall of Fame

8/27/2007 Stephen L. Betts In their 10th annual ceremony, the Texas Country Music Hall Of Fame welcomed three new members. Red Steagall, Bob Luman and Johnny Rodriguez were honored in Carthage, Texas, for their contributions to Texas and country music. Red Steagall, a native of Gainesville, who found stardom as a performer, songwriter and actor, and also helped launch the career of Reba McEntire, kicked off the entertainment for the standing-room-only crowd.  Melissa Luman represented her dad, rockabilly star Bob Luman, at the ceremony. Bob Luman died at the age of 38 in 1975.  Johnny Rodriguez, born in Sabinal, Texas, burst onto the music scene during the 1970's as the first Chicano country artist.  He scored six No. 1 country singles during the decade, including “Riding My Thumb to Mexico.”
