Martina McBride Inspires Through Her Music And Her Charity Work

Martina McBride Opry Goes Pink 2011
Martina McBride’s latest single “I’m Gonna Love You Through It” offers hope and inspiration to those affected by cancer. However, the star does more than just sing when it comes to joining the fight against the disease. Next month, Martina will help in two different Nashville events that raise money for cancer research.

On October 15, the Team Martina for The American Cancer Society's "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5 Mile Walk" will start at LP Field in downtown Nashville. Fans and cancer survivors alike will gather along with thousands of others to raise money. Last year this event drew 18,000 walkers and raised $500,000 to help the society's breast cancer research program, and this year Team Martina alone hopes to raise over $11,000. Donations may be made to the team online by going to http://www.teammartina.com.

One week later, on October 22, Martina will be the featured guest at Women Rock for the Cure’s third annual “Opry Goes Pink.” She will flip the switch that turns the Opry’s legendary barn door backdrop pink for the night. The special show will also include performances by Lauren Alania, Eden’s Edge, Kellie Pickler, Ronnie Milsap, and will include activities recognizing breast cancer survivors and the continuing fight against the disease.

Tickets for the event are available at (615) 871-OPRY and opry.com. $5 from each ticket sold will be donated to cancer research funding. For fans who can’t make it to Nashville, opry.com will also be going pink for the day, holding special auctions in the days leading up to the event with proceeds benefitting Women Rock for the Cure.
