If you think it would be tough to be a musician on tour, performing in different cities night after night, imagine what it must be like to work behind the scenes on a massive tour, such as Kenny Chesney’s 2011 Goin’ Coastal Tour. The number of people accompanying Kenny on his tour ranges between 110 and 140 people, depending on whether he is performing a stadium show or not. These people include all musicians, crew, caterers, drivers, and sound and light technicians needed to make the show run smoothly in every city.

The set for Goin’ Coastal weighs an impressive 80,000 pounds and is transported by a fleet of 23 trucks. After arriving, the set takes around eight hours to be assembled, starting at 8 am and leading all the way up to the soundcheck around 3 pm. One distinctive feature of the set is the three-sided columns that frame the stage. Each one has video tiles on one side, lighting and strobes on the second, and mirrors on the third.

Though there is clearly a huge amount of work that goes into these shows, it is all done for the fans, and it is definitely paying off. Billboard calls Kenny "the biggest ticket-seller in country music and one of the top touring artists in the world," while the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said, "Kenny Chesney brought every ounce of on-stage energy and charisma fans are accustomed to seeing."

The show is ongoing, with upcoming performances in Canada, Kansas City, MO; Detroit, MI; East Rutherford, NJ; and Boston, MA.
