Shania Twain Makes Country Music History

Shania-Twain

Shania Twain is on the rise again. June is only halfway over, and this month she has already received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, attended CMA Fest to sign copies of her book, From This Moment On, for her fans, and announced a new headline residency at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas which will begin December of 2012. To top it all off, last Thursday she was honored in Nashville as the top selling female country artist of all time, with more than 75 million albums sold worldwide.

The afternoon gathering at the Citizen club in Nashville was attended by music executives from both Shania’s past and present, including Luke Lewis, chairman of Universal Music Group Nashville, attorney Dick Frank, producers Buddy Cannon and Norro Wilson, and Nathan Chapman and Ray Kennedy, who co-produced and mastered her new song, “Today Is Your Day.” “It was exciting for me as a fan and as a producer to find out just how brilliant she really is as an artist,” said Chapman. “She sounds amazing; she sounds better than ever. She is one of those artists who can tell a story just in the tone of her voice. The song itself is so uplifting. At a time when all of her fans are rooting for her and wanting her to come back and find her voice, she is turning that back around and she is rooting for her fans by giving them a song that they can play to inspire them.”

Speaking about her new song, Shania says “The purpose of writing ‘Today Is Your Day’ in the first place was self- inspiration. I was talking to myself and saying, ‘Today is your day. You can do it!’ But the decision to even write the song and share it was a big decision for me, to find myself as a songwriter again, independently, for the very first time after all these years. Then the lyrics started flowing. It was genuinely a melody that’s cheering me up. It became the natural theme song of the series.” The song premiered on the season finale of her show ‘Why Not? with Shania Twain,’ which airs on the Oprah Winfrey Network, and is now available to download on iTunes.
